My family doesn’t exist in a constant state of complete harmony. We are all a bunch of strong opinionated people, and that means we don’t always agree.
One thing we do well though, is give unconditional support. We pull together whenever family is needed, whether it is wanted or not. I am thankful for my family, and all of the advice that I don’t want to hear that I know comes from a place of love.
I am thankful for the family that I was born with
And the family that I have made for myself.
Thanksgiving is a foreign concept to me. It is not celebrated in Russia and I did not become familiar with it until we moved to America. Even then, my family did not celebrate Thanksgiving, we’d get together, since we had no school or work and make sure to have something other than Turkey (on principal) :). Bug never celebrated Thanksgiving either. Together, we both have families who are not very holiday focused but that’s not say that we don’t like to get together, talk over each other, eat good food and give thanks for always having someone to argue with :).
Back in high school, E’s family adopted Bug and me. As we like to say, E’s mom collects stray’s. So for the fourth year running, we are celebrating Thanksgiving(& Christmas) in E’s household. It’s always loud, full of people, dogs, delicious food, and, for the past three years, babies. We come home for few days and make our rounds. We do something different with everyone in our growing family: different food, different traditions and always so much to be thankful for.
